"Run the Gauntlet" - This is how the New York pianist Kris Davis has overwritten her current program. Her music, which is characterized by dense, fraying chords over various, groovy rhythms, is a tribute to six pioneering pianists: Geri Allen, Carla Bley, Renee Rosnes, Angelica Sanchez, Marilyn Crispell and Sylvie Courvoisier. The bassist Robert Hurst and the drummer Johnathan Blake prove to be highly flexible accompanists.
